新版画の巨匠　吉田遠志 よしだ-とおし 
 
1911－1995　昭和-平成時代の版画家。
明治44年7月25日生まれ。洋画家であり版画家であった
世界的に高名な吉田博の長男。父に木版画を学び,のち
銅版,リトグラフなども併用して制作。
太平洋画会展,日本版画協会展に出品し,各地の国際
版画展でも活躍。世界各地に取材し,風景や野生動物を
えがく。
「動物絵本シリーズ」で絵本にっぽん賞などを受賞。

新版画（しんはんが）とは、明治30年前後から昭和時代
に描かれた版画。版元を中心として、従来の浮世絵版画と
同様に、絵師、彫師、摺師による分業により制作されてお
り、浮世絵の近代化、復興を目指し、海外での評価は高く、
現在もコレクター達に人気のある木版画です。

本版画は吉田スタジオの摺師 沼辺伸吉氏が
再摺りした作品です。

Hanga and some Abstract Art

Toshi Yoshida was the eldest son of Hiroshi Yoshida.
 Like his father he undertook extensive travels 
all over the world. 
His trips took him to the U.S.A., Canada, India, 
Africa, Australia　and even to the Antarctica. 
Most of his print subjects are focused　on 
landscapes or animals depicted in a realistic style. 
After the death of his father Hiroshi Yoshida, 
he even experimented　in abstract art for a while 
but returned to realistic landscape prints.

Numabe Shinkichi　of the Yoshida studio.
